The Gastroenterology Forum of Pakistan organizes symposium to address GERD Management

Heat waves has taken over a multiple cities in Pakistan, giving rise mot just to temperatures but also increasing the risk of infections and diseases. Intense heat tends to expedite the food rotting process and it’s extremely inadvisable to eat or drink anything from vendors that keep their stuff out in the open exposed to the heat. This could lead to severe gastric infections and aggravate to something worse like GERD

Taking into account the rising incdence of gastro infections with the recent increase in temperatures, The Gastroenterology Forum of Pakistan organized its first medical symposium at a local hotel in the city. The event was attended by medical professionals and leading gastroenterologists and focused on recent developments within the field of gastroenterology, particularly gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and its management.

GERD is a chronic digestive disorder that occurs when stomach acid flows back into the esophagus. Acid reflux, heartburn and chest pain are some of the common symptoms associated with the disease.    Prof. Serhat Bor from Turkey was the Chief Speaker at the event. With years of research under his belt and 50 published research papers, he spoke about the latest discoveries within the arena of gastroenterology with a particular focus on the “acid pocket” phenomenon that was first discovered in 2001.

“The Gastroenterology Forum of Pakistan has been created with the purpose of advancing knowledge and spreading awareness on GERD management. The Forum aims to lead public awareness campaigns, conduct trainings, seminars and workshops on GERD management for doctors across Pakistan and organize free consultation camps in impoverished areas”, explained Assad Gondal, Head of Healthcare at RB Pakistan.

The symposium was the first of many events that the Gastroenterology Forum has planned for the rest of the year. These will include medical workshops for doctors as well as spreading general awareness among the masses about managing the common symptoms of GERD such as heartburn.

Really want these awareness campaigns to kick start as soon as possible because these issues are already starting to prevail among people and we direly need our doctors and healthy advisories to act upon it fast.
